NAKHON PHANOM – A 53-year-old man was brutally killed by a colleague in a horrific attack that involved being set on fire and stabbed multiple times. The incident occurred on the afternoon of September 30, 2025, at a warehouse located a mere 200 meters from the Na Kae Police Station.

The victim, Mr. Somdet Phromdee, succumbed to his injuries at Na Kae Hospital around 7:00 p.m. after suffering severe burns and deep knife wounds. Police arrested the alleged perpetrator, 46-year-old Mr. Sornchai Yatakhot, at the scene where he was found waiting with the weapons used in the assault, including a knife, lighter, petrol container, and his motorcycle.
According to investigators, the suspect confessed to the attack, citing long-simmering resentment towards his co-worker. He claimed the conflict began in August when the victim allegedly mocked him after a work-related accident involving a falling sack of cement. The hostility between the two men had persisted since that time.
The fatal confrontation erupted when Mr. Sornchai interpreted a smirk from the victim as further mockery. Fueled by anger and a desire to preempt any provocation, he doused Mr. Somdet with petrol as the victim sat on his motorcycle and ignited the fuel. After the victim collapsed, the suspect pursued him and delivered multiple knife strikes. Colleagues who tried to intervene were threatened and assaulted, forcing them to retreat until the warehouse owner assisted in extinguishing the flames.
