Fire Erupts at Route 66 Nightclub Warehouse in Bangkok, No Injuries Reported

BANGKOK – A fire broke out late Monday afternoon at a storage warehouse belonging to the iconic Route 66 nightclub, located in the Huai Khwang district. The blaze, which ignited around 5:10 PM in Soi Soonvijai–Rama IX, was brought under control within 30 minutes, though the burning of soundproofing and decorative materials released toxic fumes that complicated firefighting efforts.

According to Suriya Chairawiwan, director of the Bangkok Fire and Rescue Department, employees first noticed the flames and attempted to combat them with portable extinguishers before firefighters arrived. The presence of highly flammable materials inside the facility caused the fire to spread rapidly. Firefighters encountered intense heat and thick, toxic smoke, prolonging the operation. Suriya confirmed that crews would continue spraying water overnight and use thermal cameras to monitor the site for potential reignition.

Somboon Khruakirittham, director of the Huai Khwang district office, assured the public that the fire was confined to the warehouse and did not affect the main nightclub venue. Route 66 can continue operating as usual. The area surrounding the warehouse has been declared a restricted zone for safety reasons, and the district’s engineering division is expected to take one to two weeks to inspect the structure and determine the cause and full extent of the damage.
