MAE HONG SON — A Scottish tourist from Dundee is recovering in a local hospital after being shot in the arm during a violent road rage confrontation outside the Yoma Hotel on the evening of August 26. The alleged shooter, a 40-year-old local man identified as Kitinan Pantarak, was later arrested at his home after initially fleeing the scene.

According to police, the altercation began when the tourist’s vehicle nearly collided with Kitinan’s car. Enraged, Kitinan—reportedly a cannabis dealer—pulled out a firearm and shot the Scottish man in the arm. In a strange turn of events, the suspect then helped the injured tourist into his own car and drove him to Pai Hospital for treatment before escaping before police arrived.
Colonel Phasawin Kaewtai of Mae Hong Son Police confirmed that security camera footage captured the confrontation. The victim, who was not staying at the Yoma Hotel but in a rented room, is now out of danger. However, authorities revealed they are also investigating him for overstaying his visa.
