Crane Collapse on Rama II Road Injures Three, Causes Major Traffic Disruption

SAMUT SAKHON — A construction crane collapsed in the early hours of Sunday on Rama II Road, injuring three people and triggering significant traffic delays during recovery operations. The incident occurred around 2 a.m. near kilometre marker 26+500, inbound toward Bangkok, just before Central Mahachai in Muang district.

According to FM91 Trafficpro, the crane was lifting a large steel beam onto an elevated road pillar when it lost balance and toppled, striking the parallel carriageway. The crane operator was trapped in the cabin and required emergency rescue. A passing pickup truck was crushed by falling debris, injuring the driver and a passenger. All three victims were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries.

Samut Sakhon Governor Narit Niramaiwong visited the site and confirmed that the pickup occupants were treated at Mahachai Hospital, while the crane operator was transferred to Samut Sakhon Hospital. Eyewitnesses reported that two cranes had been working together to lift the beam when one overturned.

By morning, authorities had cleared debris from the parallel lane and redirected traffic using alternative routes. The main carriageway remained closed temporarily as crews removed the crane boom, which had also hit a high-voltage power pole. Full reopening of the road is expected shortly.
