Chiang Mai Police Bust Chinese Call Center Scam Ring in Luxury Villa Raid

Deputy Commissioner of Provincial Police Region 5, Pol Maj Gen Thawatchai Phongwiwatchai, confirmed that cybercrime investigators and tourist police executed the operation under a Chiang Mai Provincial Court warrant. The targeted property, valued at over 40 million baht, was located in Huai Sai subdistrict and had been under surveillance for suspected fraudulent activities.
Upon entering the villa, officers discovered Chinese men and women operating computers and mobile phones, believed to be part of a transnational fraud network. As police moved in, all suspects attempted to flee, with several jumping from the second floor—a drop of more than eight meters. Eight sustained injuries, including one with a fractured leg, while others suffered cuts and bruises.
Authorities seized electronic devices and documents for forensic examination, with initial evidence suggesting the group impersonated officials or financial institutions to deceive victims abroad. The injured suspects received medical treatment before being taken into custody.

Pol Maj Gen Thawatchai stated that the investigation remains ongoing, with potential links to larger criminal networks. “This operation highlights our commitment to cracking down on cybercrime, especially those exploiting Thailand as a base,” he said.
The raid follows a surge in call center scams across Southeast Asia, prompting regional law enforcement collaboration. All 18 suspects now face charges including fraud and illegal immigration, with bail denied due to flight risks.
