Wang Xing traveled from Shanghai to Bangkok on January 2, 2025, after receiving a casting notice for a film project in Thailand. He lost contact with his family and friends on January 3 while in Mae Sot, a town in Thailand’s Tak Province bordering Myanmar.

Thai authorities, in collaboration with local ethnic minority groups, located Wang Xing in Shwe Kokko, a town in Myanmar notorious for housing Chinese-run call center scam operations. He was safely returned to Thailand on January 7, 2025.

Wang Xing was lured to Thailand under the pretense of a legitimate casting opportunity. Upon arrival, he was abducted by a Chinese scamming gang and transported across the border into Myanmar.

In Myanmar, Wang Xing was coerced into participating in online scam operations targeting Chinese citizens. He reported being held with approximately 50 other Chinese nationals, all subjected to similar conditions.

The Royal Thai Police, led by Police General Thatchai Pitaneelaboot, confirmed Wang Xing’s account after reviewing initial chat logs. They coordinated with local groups to facilitate his rescue and are investigating the involvement of Chinese scam syndicates operating in the region.
