Wat Suthat and the Giant Swing, Bangkok

Wat Suthat or Wat Suthat Thepphawararam is one of the the largest, oldest and perhaps one of the most unknown temples in Bangkok.

Wat Suthat, better known for the Giant Swing, was constructed during the reign of His Majesty King Rama I in 1807. King Rama II made further refurbishments, but the temple was not completed until the reign of King Rama III in the year 1847.

This temple hosts the Buddha image Phra Sri Sakyamuni also known as Sisakayamunee which was originally placed in the northern province of Sukhothai and also contains Phra Buddha Trilokachet and Phra Buddha Setthamuni images, the first one in the Ubosot and the second one in the meeting hall.

Wat Suthat contains 28 Chinese pagodas which mean the 28 Buddhas born on this earth.
