Bhumibol Bridge hosts special event to mark HM the late King Bhumibol’s birthday

BANGKOK, 5 December 2016 (NNT) – On the occasion of Thailand’s Father’s Day, Bhumibol Bridge played host to the grand-scale commemorative ceremony of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej.

At 6:39 am on Monday, Deputy Prime Minister Gen Tanasak Patimapragorn chaired the opening ceremony where attendants stood in silence for 89 seconds before singing “The Impossible Dream,” a song composed by King Bhumibol as well as the royal anthem. Attendants then gave alms to 999 monks in dedication to the late King and took part in a postcard writing activity where participants wrote down their vows of good deeds. The first 50,000 attendants would receive a special brooch in the shape of the Thai number nine. The first 19,999 would receive a set of ground soil from 77 provinces where King Bhumibol had conducted his royal duties.
