Thailand wins first men’s Taekwondo Olympic medal

RIO DE JANEIRO, 18 August 2016 (NNT) – A Thai athlete has won a silver medal in the men’s Taekwondo competition, bringing Thailand its first Olympic medal for men’s Taekwondo.

Thai Taekwondo athlete Tawin Hanprab, won a silver medal in the men’s 58 kilogram Taekwondo weight division. Tawin first defeated South Korea’s Kim Tae-hun with a score of 12-10, and went on to defeat Australia’s Safran Khalil in the quarterfinals by 11-9, before emerging victorious against Dominican Republic’s Luisito Pie in the semifinals with a score of 11-7.
