General Prayut invokes Section 44 to strip Thaksin of his police rank

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-ocha, acting in his capacity as the head of the National Council for Peace and Order, invoked Section 44 of the interim constitution to strip former prime minister Thaksin Shinawatra of his police lieutenant colonel’s rank effective as of Sunday September 6.

The order invoking Section 44 said that Thaksin’s police rank case was a threat of national security and, hence, necessitated urgent action to deal with it.
