Chiang Mai plans to become “Long Stay Tourism” destination for Japanese travelers

BANGKOK, 24 May 2014 (NNT) – Chiang Mai government officials are planning to promote the city as a place for “Long Stay Tourism”, specifically for Japanese. The concept of long stay tourism means that travelers can stay somewhere for an extended period of time without transferring citizenship.

Officials are hoping that Chiang Mai will be the first city that tourists will think of in Asia for this kind of travel, and the promotion is hoped to generate revenue of at least 10 billion baht for the tourism industry in the future.
