BANGKOK, 8 December 2013 (NNT) – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has addressed the nation on the political crisis in the country, saying she is ready to resign or dissolve parliament if it is the wish of the true majority of Thais.
The premier stressed in her speech that dissolution of parliament was an option but a general election must take place within 60 days after that as required by the constitution, and MPs of major parties must run in the poll. What the PM said was in reference to the Democrat party’s refusal to participate in a general election in 2006 and the subsequent coup d’état.
If her resignation or the dissolution of parliament could really end the political crisis, she would be willing to do so, the PM said.
