Thailand on alert for new strain of bird flu
BANGKOK, 2 March 2013 (NNT) – The Ministry of Public Health is monitoring the new strain of bird flu H7N9 after two people died of the disease in China in March this year.
Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra on Tuesday talked about the recent spread of the new avian influenza in China, saying the Public Health Ministry was keeping a close watch on the situation. The PM suggested that the closed house system for poultry could help reduce and control an H7N9 spread. However, Ms Yingluck said a bird flu epidemic also depended on the surrounding environment and sanitation.
