Transport Ministry orders speeding up of illegal taxis registration in Phuket

BANGKOK, Aug 26 – The Land Transport Department of Thailand was ordered to register about 3,600 illegal taxis in the resort town of Phuket to solve the problem of overcharging, said Deputy Transport Minister Chatchart Sithipan.

After registration, taxi drivers will be required to dress properly and must hold a license valid for public service driving by the end of this year, in line with the policy of Deputy Prime Minister Chalerm Yubamrung to promote the country’s tourism and generate tourism income of two trillion baht within the next five years.
