A powerful Chinese New Year fireworks display in Suphan Buri got out of control on Tuesday night, with fire authorities saying three people are dead and about 50 houses are ablaze.

At least 30 people were injured when debris from the display held at the provincial City Pillar shrine fell into a dense residential community containing hundreds of wooden houses.
