Bhumibol Dam nearly full, Tak Municipality inundated

TAK, 8 October 2011 (NNT) – Bhumibol Dam in Thailand’s Tak province is only one foot away from reaching its full capacity while authorities are speedily draining floodwater out of Tak Municipality in the wake of heavy downpours.

Director of Bhumibol Dam Boon-in Chuenchavalit revealed that the water level at the dam was currently at 259.84 meters and there were only 30 centimeters left before the dam was 100 percent filled up. However, the amount of water flowing into the dam yesterday was measured at 130 million cubic meters, decreasing from the day before by 53 million cubic meters.

Mr Boon-in pointed out that if the rain stopped and the water input to Bhumibol Dam began to decline, the volume of water released into the Ping River would be reduced as well.

Meanwhile, some parts of Tak Municipality have experienced up to 20-centimeter flood following incessant rains combined with a backflow of excess water from the Ping River through the sewer. Therefore, municipal officials have been dispatched to siphon the water out of the areas in an urgent manner.
