Leadership depends on results: Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra

BANGKOK, 26 August 2011 (NNT) – Prime Minister Yingluck Shinawatra has promised to work hard and do her best in the national administration for people because she believes that leadership depends on the result of operations rather than roles in Parliament.

Speaking upon the opposition’s criticism on her poor roles in delivering the policy statement, Ms Yingluck told the press that she will work hard to prove her leadership since it will be more important than roles in Parliament.

The prime minister quipped that she must ask Opposition Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva for his definition of leadership because the operational result should be a more direct answer while people will surely be disappointed if leadership does not come with satisfactory performances in the end.

Upon criticism against Parliament President Somsak Kiatsuranont for lack of neutrality, Ms Yingluck responded that she personally viewed that Mr Somsak had been working with impartiality because he upheld parliamentary rules and regulations strictly during the deliberation.

The prime minister also noted that all the comments made by the opposition will not affect the stability of her government because no voting was made in the deliberation.

As for the attempt of the opposition to seek interpretation if the government exceeded the 15 days limit for policy statement elaboration as prescribed by law, Ms Yingluck responded that the government had been working correctly according to the procedures.
