The Thai government says two vaccine plants, just outside the capital Bangkok, are expected to start production later this year.
Two years ago Thailand faced a similar problem to countries in the developing world: the H1N1 or swine flu pandemic was sweeping the globe, and expensive vaccines were quickly snapped up by wealthier countries.
It’s hoping the locally made vaccines will free the Thai population from the stock levels of multi-national drug-makers, when other flu pandemics strike.
