Wiroj Damsanit, a politician based in Angthong who was canvassing for veteran politician Somsak Prissanananthakul, was shot dead yesterday while driving home. His wife was also seriously wounded in the shootout.

Police said the motive behind the killing was politics – either at the local or national level. The politician was formerly chief of an administrative organisation in Pa Moke district. His wife Phonpen took two bullets from an AK-47 rifles in the waist and is being treated in hospital.
