Thailand’s DTAC Finally Approved for 3G

It’s taken 3 years with lots of accusations thrown about resulting in hurt feelings all around but CAT has now approved DTAC’s request to go live with a commercial 3G service.

Up until now, DTAC has been conducting limited 3G “testing” at 36 approved sites while AIS and True Move had already received approval from their respective concession owners to provide 3G coverage in the greater Bangkok area, Huahin, Phuket, Chonburi and Chiang Mai.

True Move is also operating on a CAT concession in the 850 MHz frequency for its 2.5G and 3G services while AIS is operating on TOT’s concession on the 900 MHz frequency range.

DTAC’s entry into 3G will be interesting to say the least as they had been grumbling about unfair treatment from CAT for the past few years as True Move has been allowed to expand its 3G network substantially while DTAC’s petition has been stuck in bureaucratic limbo.
