Thai Police detain 18 suspected of involvement in army outpost attack in Narathiwat

PATTANI, Jan 25 – Thai police here have detained 18 suspects for suspected involvement in an attack at an army outpost in Rangae district last week.

Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) spokesman Col Banpot Poolpian said a joint operation of 300 military and police searched for insurgents who attacked the military outpost in Narathiwat’s Rangae district and detained 18 suspects. One suspect was sent to the police for legal action and two were released, while 15 others remain in detention.

Col Banpot noted that recent insurgent attacks targeted police and soldiers with an aim to intensify violence and draw international attention as the Organization of Islamic Conference (OIC) will hold key meetings in March and June.
