PM: Thai Navy in Somali pirate hunt strengthens foreign ties

BANGKOK, 12 September 2010 (NNT) – The participation of the Royal Thai Navy in the mission to police the Gulf of Aden and the Somali coast will help bridge collaboration in naval security, according to Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva.

Speaking in his weekly TV show “Confidence in Thailand with Prime Minister Abhisit”, the Prime Minister said the contribution of the Thai Navy in the Somali piracy suppression would help enhance maritime security and protect the national interest.

Prime Minister Abhisit deemed the rampant Somali piracy problem a threat against the maritime peace, international trade and investment, as well as the world security as a whole.
