Journalist in Thailand explores ‘ignored’ Isaan province

Although locations such as Bangkok, Koh Samui and Phuket continue to impress visitors from all over the world, those taking a gap year in Thailand may find the lesser-travelled province of Isaan will reward them handsomely during a visit.

This is according to the viewpoint of Telegraph journalist Sasha Bates, who visited the region to see north-east Thailand‘s largest temple, Wat Phra That Phanom.

Ms Bates describes how, although she is well acquainted with the country, as a lesser-visited and “ignored” province, “Isaan proved a breath of fresh air in all senses”.

She added: “Here, it is still possible to see people going about their everyday business as they have done for centuries – fishing, weaving silk, growing rice, or trading.”
