The blaze began around 7 p.m., engulfing a large black PPE drainage pipe that channels rainwater from the road surface to the ground below. Flames spread quickly along the pipe at the base of the bridge pier, alarming nearby motorists and residents.

Witnesses reported seeing children playing with toy cap guns in the area shortly before the fire started. Firefighters battled the flames for approximately an hour and a half before containing them.

Rewat Sukkham, director of the Industrial Ring Road Division of the Department of Rural Highways, assured that the bridge remains structurally sound. A team of engineers will conduct a detailed safety inspection on Thursday.

Phra Pradaeng district security chief Prin Jawathiyakul said initial findings indicate the fire likely originated from sparks near the base of the pier, which then traveled upward along the drainage pipe to the underside of the bridge.
