Thailand Bans Drone Flights in Seven Border Provinces Over Security Concerns

BANGKOK – Thailand’s Civil Aviation Authority (CAAT) has implemented a temporary ban on all unauthorized drone flights across specified districts in seven provinces along the Thai-Cambodian border. The restriction, effective from November 16 to 30, 2025, was enacted in response to ongoing security concerns in the region. The directive, issued as Announcement No. 10, comes at the request of security agencies seeking to maintain strict no-fly zones during a period of heightened sensitivity.

The prohibition covers designated districts in Sa Kaeo, Buri Ram, Si Sa Ket, Surin, Ubon Ratchathani, Trat, and Chanthaburi provinces. Additionally, the ban extends to a 9-kilometer radius around certain airports and any other zones specifically declared by security authorities. CAAT emphasized that the measure is necessary to support active security operations along the border.

Under the new regulations, all drone operators must be registered with CAAT and submit flight approval requests at least three days in advance through the official UAS Portal application. Approved flights are limited to altitudes below 90 meters and permitted only between 6:00 AM and 6:00 PM, with a complete prohibition between midnight and 4:00 AM. Operators must also notify both CAAT and the Anti-Drone Operations Center of their flight details prior to any approved operation.

The authority stated these measures aim to balance national security needs with regulated drone usage, noting that restrictions have been eased in most other parts of the country.
