SI SA KET – Cambodian soldiers crossed into Thai territory near the Phu Phee area on Thursday afternoon, firing three rifle shots in the vicinity of the Thai tactical barbed-wire fence opposite Pa Man Base in Kantharalak District. The incident, which occurred at 1:22 p.m. in Saothong Chai sub-district, was described by Thai authorities as a deliberate test of Thai forces’ readiness and response.
Thai Military Chiefs Vote to Indefinitely Close Cambodia Border
According to a statement released on the Thai 2nd Army Region’s official Facebook page, Thai troops stationed in the area exercised restraint and did not return fire. No casualties or damage have been reported. The army condemned the action as a clear violation of existing ceasefire agreements, raising questions about the Cambodian military’s commitment to accords established under the General Border Committee (GBC) and Regional Border Committee (RBC) frameworks.
In a related development, Thai military units detected a Cambodian drone operating in the Sam Tae area, further escalating tensions. Both sides remain deployed in defensive positions, with Thai troops maintaining observation posts and a state of high alert. The 2nd Army Region has issued a public warning regarding a heightened risk of unrest along the border and urged citizens to rely exclusively on official sources to avoid misinformation.

The incident follows recent statements by Thai Army deputy spokesman Col. Richa Suksuvanon, who earlier today highlighted Cambodia’s alleged continued violations of the ceasefire agreement. These accusations include troop reinforcement, the covert use of landmines, drone surveillance, and other provocative actions. In response, the Thai Army has strengthened security measures along the border and is implementing stricter controls to ensure operational safety and effectiveness.
New measures require that donations or visits to military personnel be coordinated in advance with the responsible unit and confined to designated areas. Civilians and external agencies are prohibited from engaging in activities within military deployment zones without prior approval from the Army Operations Centre. The army has also requested that the public and media refrain from publishing information or images that could reveal operational details, such as troop deployments or key terrain features. The military affirms that public cooperation will strengthen morale and enhance its ability to safeguard national sovereignty with maximum safety and effectiveness.
