Queen Suthida and Olympic Champion Kipchoge Headline Successful Amazing Thailand Marathon

BANGKOK – In a display of royal patronage and sporting excellence, Her Majesty Queen Suthida presided over the start of the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok 2025 at Sanam Luang on November 30. The event witnessed a remarkable spectacle as the Queen, alongside Kenyan Olympic gold medallist and marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge, participated in the 21.1-kilometre half marathon, completing the course in 2 hours and 13 minutes.

‘Buriram Marathon 2024’ Night Run Attracts Over 30,000 Participants

The ceremonial opening saw thousands of runners begin the race under Her Majesty’s patronage, drawing significant public attention to one of the country’s premier running events. Following the half marathon start, Queen Suthida later sounded the air horn to launch the 10-kilometre race in front of the statue of Phra Mae Thorani. Her continued presence at the venue to observe marathon runners cross the finish line underscored the event’s national significance.

The eighth edition of the Amazing Thailand Marathon Bangkok Presented by Toyota attracted elite competitors from Kenya, Ethiopia, Poland and Thailand. In the men’s overall marathon, Bekele Shiferaw Agunafr of Ethiopia claimed victory with a winning time of 2:14:27, ahead of compatriot Tariku Abdi and Poland’s Krzysztof Hadas. The women’s title went to Kenya’s Eunice Nyawira Muchiri who finished in 2:39:27, followed by Ethiopian runners Hajer Kahsay Berhe and Meseret Yedaw.

Thai athletes delivered commendable performances, with Natthawat Innun achieving the best Thai result in the men’s marathon at 2:30:55. In the women’s division, Dr Charinya Kanchanasevi emerged as the top Thai competitor with a time of 3:00:26, highlighting the strong international and domestic presence at the event.

Organisers emphasised the marathon’s role in promoting sports tourism and enhancing Bangkok’s profile as a host city for major international sporting events. The involvement of Her Majesty and the celebrated athlete Eliud Kipchoge contributed significantly to the event’s visibility and public engagement. With the 2025 edition successfully concluded, preparations for next year’s race are expected to begin shortly, continuing the event’s position as a key fixture in Thailand’s annual sporting calendar.
