‘Big Joke’ Faces Lawsuit for Calling Police ‘Criminal Organisation’
BANGKOK – Former deputy national police chief Surachate “Big Joke” Hakparn is facing a defamation lawsuit after publicly describing the police force as “the largest criminal organisation.” The legal action was announced by Pol Lt Gen Trairong Phiewphan, the assistant national police chief, during a press briefing on Wednesday.

Pol Lt Gen Trairong condemned the blanket statement made by his former colleague in a recent media interview, calling the characterization unfair and misleading. He confirmed his intention to personally sue Pol Gen Surachate for damaging the reputation of the entire police force and for implicating him in illegal activities during the interview, the Bangkok Post reported.
The lawsuit follows a formal complaint submitted to national police chief Pol Gen Kittharath Punpetch by four major police organizations. The Retired Police Officers’ Club, together with the RTP Association, the Police Cadet Academy Association, and the Inquiry Officials Association, expressed deep concern over recent public statements they say have distorted facts and eroded public confidence in law enforcement.

The controversy stems from allegations made by Pol Gen Surachate and activist Atchariya Ruangrattanapong accusing certain officers of involvement with online gambling and scam networks. The police organizations have called for an independent and transparent investigation into these claims while urging that any wrongdoing be properly addressed.

Pol Gen Surachate, once considered a rising star in the force, was dismissed from service earlier this year for his alleged connection to a major online gambling network. His dismissal followed a prolonged public feud with former police chief Pol Gen Torsak Sukvimol, with both officials exchanging accusations of ties to illegal gambling operations. Despite his removal from the force without pension, Pol Gen Surachate continues to pursue legal action against the police department.
