Woman Killed, Seven Injured in Pathum Thani Townhouse Gas Explosion
PATHUM THANI – A cooking gas leak triggered a powerful explosion at a townhouse in the Muang district on Saturday morning, resulting in one fatality and seven injuries. The blast, which occurred at the Phanason housing estate on Pathum Thani-Lat Lum Kaeo Road, also caused significant structural damage to multiple residences and destroyed several vehicles.

Police Major Chaiphat Areewong, investigation chief at Muang Police Station, confirmed that authorities were notified of the incident around 7:00 AM. Upon arrival, emergency crews found a two-story townhouse fully engulfed in flames, with the explosion having also damaged two adjacent row houses. Firefighters required approximately 40 minutes to bring the blaze under control, while the Provincial Electricity Authority cut power to the area as a safety precaution.
Rescue workers discovered multiple victims suffering from burns and blast-related injuries. Five injured individuals were transported to Pathum Thani Hospital, while two others declined evacuation due to concerns about their property. The deceased was identified as 64-year-old Phetkamon Bamrung, the owner of the townhouse, whose body was found in the kitchen area.

The force of the explosion caused extensive damage to walls and roofs and destroyed several vehicles, including a pickup truck, a car, and seven to eight motorcycles. Neighbor Somkuan Chatwong, 52, reported hearing a loud blast before his ceiling collapsed. His house, which operated as a beauty salon, was occupied by three people at the time of the incident.

Police Captain Decha Chanthachart, deputy inspector of Muang Police Station, stated that preliminary investigations indicate a cooking gas cylinder explosion initiated the fire. Authorities have sealed off the area due to concerns about structural instability and residual heat. The Department of Public Works and Town and Country Planning will conduct a detailed safety inspection once temperatures decrease to safe levels. Meanwhile, the Tambon Ban Chang Administrative Organization has established a relief center to provide temporary shelter and assistance to affected residents.
