Thai Military Unveils Design for New Border Fence with Cambodia

BANGKOK – The Royal Thai Armed Forces have publicly detailed plans for a new high-security border fence along the Thai-Cambodian frontier, a direct response to recent armed clashes that have heightened tensions between the two neighboring nations. The blueprint was formally presented to Her Royal Highness Princess Chulabhorn Krom Phra Srisavangavadhana by Army Chief General Pana Klaoplodthuk during a royal audience on Thursday.

According to specifications released through the Hataitip Fund’s official channels, the barrier will stand 3.5 meters tall and combine a lower section of prestressed concrete with an upper galvanized steel grating, topped with barbed wire. The design is engineered to resist breaching attempts through force, climbing, or tunneling. While official costs were not disclosed, preliminary media estimates project expenses of approximately 7.36 million baht per kilometer for the fence, rising to 8.6 million baht if an adjacent patrol road is included.

The Hataitip Fund is expected to serve as the primary mechanism for mobilizing public contributions to finance the project. The initial construction phase will cover 8.4 kilometers between border markers 52 and 59 in Chanthaburi’s Pong Nam Ron district, an area where demarcation is already finalized.
