PHUKET – Phuket law enforcement officials have apprehended a French national and a Thai transgender woman on charges of drug distribution following a targeted raid at a hotel on Sirirat Road. The operation, conducted on October 25 in the Patong area, was led by senior officers from Patong Police Station and resulted in the seizure of methamphetamine and drug packaging materials.

During the search of the hotel room, police discovered 43.64 grams of crystal methamphetamine, one digital scale, and forty small transparent plastic bags. The arrests culminated from an investigation into reports of illegal drug activities in the vicinity, which prompted authorities to place the suspects under surveillance before moving in. Both individuals were taken into custody without resistance and transported to Patong Police Station for further interrogation.

Police Colonel Chalermchai Hoernsawat, superintendent of Patong Police Station, confirmed that the methamphetamine was packaged in a manner consistent with street-level distribution, indicating the drugs were intended for local sale. The two suspects now face charges of jointly possessing a Category 1 narcotic with intent to distribute for commercial purposes. Under Thai law, offenses involving methamphetamine carry severe penalties, including lengthy prison sentences and substantial fines.

The operation forms part of intensified efforts by Phuket authorities to combat narcotics trafficking in tourist areas, where incidents involving both foreign nationals and locals have been increasing. Investigators are now working to trace the origin of the seized drugs and determine whether the suspects are connected to a larger trafficking network. The case file will be forwarded to the Phuket Provincial Prosecutor’s Office upon completion of the investigation, which includes examining electronic communications to establish the full scope of the alleged operations.
