Unidentified Drones Defy National Ban, Spark Security Concerns
BANGKOK – Despite a nationwide prohibition on unauthorized drone flights, the Second Army Region Command has reported a surge in unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) activity across northeastern Thailand and along the Cambodian border. Military officials confirmed the detection of at least 94 drones operating in Surin, Buri Ram, Ubon Ratchathani, Nakhon Ratchasima, and Roi Et provinces over recent days.

Of particular concern are an additional 25 to 30 drones spotted near the Thai-Cambodian frontier, some of which allegedly crossed into Thai airspace. The intrusions come amid heightened tensions, with Thai forces reporting multiple instances of Cambodian soldiers attempting to breach barbed wire barriers near Thai military positions. According to the military’s daily update, Thai troops responded in line with standard engagement protocols, prompting the Cambodian personnel to retreat without further incident.

Meanwhile, Explosive Ordnance Disposal teams remain active in the region, having successfully cleared 269 hazardous zones to date. Operations are ongoing in 43 remaining areas, with nine additional sites scheduled for controlled mine detonations. Authorities have reiterated calls for public vigilance, urging residents to report any suspicious objects to local officials immediately to prevent accidents.
