Thailand, China, Cambodia Hold Trilateral Talks on Border Peace
BANGKOK – Thai Foreign Minister Maris Sangiamphong joined his Chinese and Cambodian counterparts for informal discussions aimed at fostering stability along the Thailand-Cambodia border. The talks took place on the sidelines of the 10th Mekong-Lancang Cooperation Foreign Ministers’ Meeting, held from August 13 to 15, following an invitation from Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

Maris expressed appreciation for China’s constructive role in facilitating dialogue between Thailand and Cambodia, particularly in supporting peaceful conflict resolution through bilateral mechanisms and the full implementation of ceasefire agreements. He stressed the urgency of joint efforts to clear landmines along the disputed border, calling it a critical measure to reduce tensions and restore normalcy in the region.

The Thai Foreign Minister also highlighted a shared commitment among the three nations to counter the spread of misinformation on social media, which could exacerbate disputes. Maris thanked Wang Yi for backing Thailand’s push for demining cooperation, a topic expected to be addressed in greater detail at an upcoming Regional Border Committee (RBC) meeting.
