Thai Authorities Arrest Alleged Cambodian Spy in Buriram
BURIRAM – Thai police have detained a 36-year-old Cambodian national suspected of espionage after discovering military uniforms and a homemade firearm during a raid in Buriram province. The suspect, identified only as Win, was found in possession of multiple uniforms—including one bearing insignia from a Cambodian elite security unit formerly tasked with protecting ex-Prime Minister Hun Sen.

Investigators uncovered that Win had used four different identities across official documents, including military records, a passport, national ID card, and work permit. Despite claiming to have left military service years ago, authorities allege he illegally crossed into Thailand in mid-July 2025 and had been residing in his Thai wife’s hometown.
A forensic examination of Win’s phone revealed photos of him in military gear posing with what appeared to be military-grade weapons, raising suspicions of intelligence-gathering activities. Police suspect he may have been relaying sensitive information to Cambodian officials.
