Influencer gets bill shock at Bangkok Michelin starred street food restaurant

BANGKOK — A Thai influencer’s dining experience at Bangkok’s famed Raan Jay Fai has sparked online outrage after she was charged nearly triple the menu price for a signature dish without prior notice, the Bangkok Post reported.

PEACHII, a London-based YouTuber with 1.6 million followers, took to social media to share her shock when billed 4,000 baht for a crab omelette listed at 1,500 baht on the menu. The Michelin-starred eatery, known for its fiery wok-cooking octogenarian chef Jay Fai, reportedly justified the upcharge by claiming they used premium crab from “a better source” – though no such option was mentioned on the menu or disclosed when ordering.

In her viral August 15 post that amassed 9 million views within hours, the content creator acknowledged the dish’s quality but criticized the lack of transparency. “The problem isn’t whether it was worth the price, but that they changed it without telling customers,” she wrote, noting she hadn’t requested any special variation.

The 81-year-old chef-owner Supinya Junsuta, whose life was recently documented in a biopic, has yet to publicly address the controversy surrounding her iconic Phra Nakhon district stall, which has held a Michelin star since 2018. The incident has reignited debates about pricing fairness at celebrity chef establishments versus traditional street food values.
