Bangkok, July 3, 2025 – The Thai Meteorological Department (TMD) has issued an urgent weather warning as heavy rainfall is forecast to sweep across 49 provinces today, with nearly 70% of the affected areas expected to face intense downpours. Severe Weather Conditions
The TMD attributes the extreme weather to a strengthening southwest monsoon over the Andaman Sea, Thailand, and the Gulf of Thailand, coupled with a low-pressure system near northern Vietnam. These conditions are expected to trigger heavy to very heavy rainfall in several areas, particularly in the northern, northeastern, central, and eastern regions. Coastal provinces along the Andaman Sea have been cautioned about rough seas, with waves reaching 1-2 meters and even higher during storms.
High-Risk Areas
The warning spans key provinces, including:
-
Northern Thailand: Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Phitsanulok, and Tak
-
Northeastern Region: Nakhon Ratchasima, Ubon Ratchathani, and Khon Kaen
-
Central & Eastern Zones: Ayutthaya, Kanchanaburi, Chonburi, and Rayong
-
Bangkok & Surroundings: The capital faces a 70% chance of heavy rain, with flood-prone districts under close watch.
