Authorities revealed that the officers were responding to a report of a stolen motorcycle in Talotue Raman sub-district when insurgents, lying in wait behind bushes, detonated the bomb as their vehicle passed.
Police suspect the initial call was a ruse by insurgent accomplices to lure security forces into the ambush. The attack underscores the ongoing volatility in Thailand’s deep south, where separatist militants frequently target security personnel with explosives and ambushes.
An investigation is underway as security forces intensify operations to track down those responsible. The incident has renewed concerns over insurgent tactics designed to exploit routine police operations for deadly attacks.
