Australian Fugitive Arrested in Pattaya Villa with Pet Lions in 21 Million Baht Crypto Heist
Pattaya, May 10 – In a scene straight out of a Hollywood crime thriller, Thai police stormed a luxury Pattaya villa early this morning, arresting a flamboyant Australian fugitive who allegedly masterminded a series of violent robberies across Thailand’s tourist hotspots – all while keeping two full-grown lions as exotic pets on the property.

The suspect, known only as “Billy,” was apprehended in a dramatic raid at his sprawling 30-million-baht estate in Banglamung district. Officers from Region 8 Police swooped in with arrest warrants from both Phuket and Koh Samui courts, where Billy stands accused of orchestrating two brazen armed robberies that netted over 21 million baht from a fellow Australian expat.
What officers discovered inside the villa left even seasoned investigators stunned:
-
Two majestic but clearly distressed lions prowling in enclosures
-
An arsenal of realistic-looking BB guns strategically placed throughout the mansion

“One lion cost me 1 million baht, the other 700,000,” Billy casually told arresting officers, claiming the animals were legally registered to his Thai girlfriend. Wildlife officials have since removed the big cats to a sanctuary. The arrest culminates a months-long investigation sparked by terrifying reports from an Australian victim.
Billy and three accomplices allegedly burst into the man’s villa brandishing firearms last year, forcing him to transfer 10.5 million baht at gunpoint. In January, the victim was allegedly coerced into handing over 2.8 Bitcoin (worth ~7.5 million baht at the time) by Billy’s Thai associates. The victim reported constant harassment, including death threats tied to Australian organized crime figures
Police Colonel Thanet Sukchai of Region 8 told reporters: “This isn’t just about robbery – we’re investigating an entire criminal network with international ties. Those lions weren’t pets; they were status symbols for a man who thought he was untouchable.”
The case has sent shockwaves through Thailand’s expat community, with many questioning how such brazen criminal operations could flourish undetected. As one neighbor remarked: “We just thought he was another rich foreigner with unusual hobbies. The lions should have been our first clue something wasn’t right.”
Note: Immigration authorities confirm Billy’s visa has been revoked – he faces deportation after serving what could be a decades-long prison sentence if convicted on all charges.
