Indonesian earthquake felt in 5 southern Thai provinces

PHUKET, 7 December 2016 (NNT) – A severe earthquake on Indonesia’s Sumatra Island was reportedly felt in up to 5 provinces of southern Thailand.

The quake took place at 5AM Thai time this morning and was centered in Aceh province of Indonesia. The 6.5 magnitude tremor caused a number of buildings to collapse and casualty reports so far have indicated 20 deaths with 10 people injured. The earthquake is being considered the second of such severity in as little as 3 days but has caused the most damage.
