What we know about Hua Hin twin blasts

At least one person has been killed and 23 more injured with foreigners among the victims after two explosions hit Hua Hin, a popular coastal resort in the Gulf of Thailand frequented by families and foreign tourists as well as Thai visitors.

Police said 23 people were wounded and a woman died by the twin explosives hidden in plant pots about 50 meters apart, and detonated by mobile phones. The first bomb was placed near a bar and the second explosive in a tourist area, in a attempt to get as many people injured as possible.

According to a witness, the woman who died was a street food vendor selling somtum (papaya salad) in the area of the blasts.

All bars and restaurants in Hua Hin are temporarily shut down by order of Thai authorities. It was not clear who is behind the attack.

Among the first to report the blasts on Twitter Edwin Wiek, founder of Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand:

“The Huahin hospital says two injured foreigners are from the Netherlands. Bombs in Hua Hin were in plant pots, one foreign man with wife and child badly injured, had bones sticking out of legs according to local people.”

Richard Barrow said that at least two foreign tourists are seriously injured.

“I am currently at my mates villa in Hua Hin in Thailand some bombs have just gone off”, MikeC said. “We are helping the injured in Hua Hin in Thailand,” he added.

The wounded were rushed to Hua Hin hospital, among the injured many foreigners.

The second explosion injured 15 people in central Hua Hin.

Many people sent messages of support and solidarity with Thailand.
