47 people killed in Indonesia landslides

Flash floods caused by torrential rain at the weekend killed 47 people in the main island of Java, Indonesian authorities said on Monday. Search and rescue teams were clearing debris in several locations in Central Java province after heavy rainfall damaged thousands of homes and forced residents to evacuate, Reuters reports.

Sutopo Nugroho, spokesman for the national disaster mitigation agency, said that 15 people remained missing.
