Police look on as anti-coup rally goes ahead

Hundreds of anti-coup activists rallied at Democracy Monument on Saturday evening after defying an order not to march there, but police made no attempt to break up the event.

Security officials earlier tried unsuccessfully to put the brakes on the protest after a seminar marking the ninth anniversary of the 2006 military coup.
