Permanent-secretary of the Public Health Ministry Dr Narong Sahametapat is to propose tax increase on tobacco, reasoning high cigarette prices could deter people from smoking.

He was speaking at last weekend hosting of an event to mark the World No Tobacco Day which falls on May 31.
