BANGKOK, 21 January 2014 (NNT) – The Election Commission (EC) has announced that it has no power to consider changes made to the rice support program’s finances, saying it is the responsibility of the government to decide on the matter.

EC Secretary-General Phuchong Nutrawong said the EC meeting on Tuesday agreed the commission could not allow or disallow the government’s public debt restructuring plan for the year 2014 which included borrowing for the rice subsidy scheme and projects related to the railway system.
