BMA gearing up for possible flooding in Bangkok

BANGKOK, 25 September 2013 (NNT) – The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is urgently pumping floodwater out of the capital and asks the government for cooperation to prevent a recurrence of the 2011 flood crisis.

Deputy Governor of Bangkok Amorn Kitchawengkul and the director of the Department of Drainage and Sewerage on Wednesday inspected the readiness of flood tunnels at Bueng Phra Ram Kao swamp which is receiving water from the Saen Saeb and Lat Phrao canals. The deputy governor said all flood tunnels in Bangkok could take up to 3,000 cubic meters of water a second from the upper part of the capital and release it into the Chao Phraya.
