Deputy PM Chalerm visits Thailand’s Deep South

BANGKOK, 11 April 2013 (NNT) – Deputy Prime Minister of Thailand Chalerm Yubamrung on Thursday traveled to the southern border province of Pattani to receive a report on the current situation in the area and attend a funeral of two soldiers killed by insurgents.

On his visit to Pattani, Mr Chalerm chaired the bathing rite for two army officers who lost their lives in a recent car bomb in Panare district. On this occasion, compensation money was given to the grieving families of the victims.

Afterwards, Mr Chalerm was briefed by the Forward Command of the Internal Security Operations Command (ISOC) Region 4 on the local situation before delivering policy on solutions to the southern unrest to local officers. He emphasized that the government would not resort to violence and it needed to consult with all sides in dealing with the years-long problem.
