SI SA KET, 14 January 2013 (NNT) – Over 30 police officers have been deployed to provide security for an activist group, which is staging a rally in Si Sa Ket province for the return of Preah Vihear Temple to Thailand, after local residents expressed strong objection to the protesters’ presence.

The Dhamma Yatra group, a civil network tied to the anti-government People’s Alliance for Democracy, set up its stage in Sok Kham Pom Village, Kantharalak district, this past weekend to deliver speeches calling for Cambodia’s return of Preah Vihear Temple to Thailand regardless of the World Court’s previous ruling.

The group ended part of the rally activities on Sunday after some 200 residents set up a rival stage voicing their opposition to the group’s movement, demanding the group to halt its campaign and leave the area. Following the locals’ outcry, 30 police officers have been stationed around the rally site in a bid to prevent clashes with the protesters.
