 Buddhists across Thailand celebrate Buddha Jayanti

BANGKOK, 31 May 2012 (NNT) – Buddhists from across the country celebrate the 2,600th year anniversary of Buddha’s enlightenment, known as Buddha Jayanti, with merit-making and praying.

In Sing Buri Province, people traveled to Wat Phra Non Chaksi to offer prayers to the Buddha relics on the occasion of the Buddha Jayanti. The Buddha relic has been placed at the temple for worshipping during the occasion until June 3rd. The Buddha Jayanti celebration is also held to honor His Majesty the King and celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th birthday as well as His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 60th birthday.

In Ratchaburi, the Governor and local civil officials have planted auspicious trees on the Buddha Jayanti occasion and to celebrate Their Majesties the King’s and Queen’s and His Royal Highness’s birthdays.

Meanwhile, Ayutthaya Province is inviting Buddhists to join its celebration on June 4th, observing an exhibition on the construction of the Tung Han Tra Monument of Loyalty, which is 80% complete, as well as other interesting activities.

In Nan Province, 250 prisoners and jailers participated in the Dharma Prison, meditating on the occasion of Visakha Bucha Day and the 2,600th year of Buddha’s enlightenment.
