BANGKOK, 11 April 2012 (NNT) – The National Disaster Warning Center (NDWC) has announced cancellation of the tsunami alert along the Andaman coast of Thailand.
According to Director-General of the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) Wiboon Sanguanpong, the NDWC has officially revoked its tsunami warning at 20.00 hrs, local time. Nonetheless, he said the DDPM has requested local authorities in the six Andaman coastal provinces at risk of tsunami to continue to keep a close watch on the situation for two more hours.
As all evacuees in the areas are now allowed to return home, the officials have also been instructed to provide convenience for them during their commute. Local residents are encouraged to follow up on any updates from related agencies during this period.
