Thailand Post steps up measures against drug smuggling

BANGKOK, 16 March 2012 (NNT) – Thailand Post Company is stepping up its inspection process to intercept drug smuggling.

Ms. Anusra Chittmittrapap, President of Thailand Post Company, said that the company has not been informed about the Chiang Mai police’s March 14 arrest of drug smugglers, who were planning to send narcotics to buyers by parcel post.

However, considering records of illegal drug trade in the northern province, the company has instructed its staff to be extra-cautious about the inspection of all parcels traveling through the area to intercept future narcotics smuggling.

Ms. Anusra affirmed that, so far, nothing suspicious has been reported.

Meanwhile, Group Captain Anudith Nakornthap, Minister of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), on Thursday, instructed Thailand Post Company to continue with the development of logistics business and the adoption of technology in postal business and to focus on low-interest loan consideration for low-income earners.
